Getting sober has been a trend just as long as being a drunken loser has been a trend.
I think when you try sobriety you become hyper-aware of others drinking or not drinking. My husband and I would both perk up whenever anyone at a table in earshot mentioned “0%.” What was fascinating is many husbands seemed to be doing 0% beers and the wife would still order wine for herself. Is sobriety a slightly bigger trend among men? I find that hard to believe but it sort of seemed that way on our vacation.
This is us! I still drink, but after my DD was born 10 year ago DH quit. He said it disrupted his sleep. We alternated nights with DD if she woke up. He couldn't take the sleep deprivation, so that was it. Then he realized he didn't like alcohol as much as he thought so he never went back. Personally, I like occasional wine. I'd never drink a whole bottle myself, so I only get a glass when I'm out and he's driving.
