We adopted a 5 month old puppy from the shelter. They told us she has kennel cough. We bring her home and the cough is scary. We took her to the vet. They said it is kennel cough and said it will get worse before it is better. A week has gone by and it doesn’t seem to get better. Has anyone experienced this? What else should we do? How long does this last? It is our first dog ever and we want to make sure we are doing the right thing. It is scary watching her cough like this.
Yes. When I adopted my now 2yr old dog he had a really scary cough. I was genuinely afraid he might die. Vet prescribed amoxicillin because he was too small to get doxycycline. Symptoms got worse and there was a visit to emergency vet at 2am for X-ray and er vet added azithromycin. Slowly improved over the next 2-3 weeks and took a month to fully clear up.
