We have a cleaning woman who is self employed. She comes every week. We pay her agreed on hourly rate. No tip. End of year we give her 2.5x weekly rate. [/quote]

I pretty much do the same here. I also pay for Christmas/New Year's off (even if it does not fall on the work day), so I pay for Christmas/NY off + bonus.

I also try to give off w/pay when we are out of town if I can manage that with the timing. We usually go away for 2-3 weeks in August, so if we leave on a Saturday, then I ask our cleaner, who comes in on Thursdays, if she wants to delay till later that Saturday or early the following week. Then she will not have to return until the Thursday after our return. She clearly appreciates a 2 or 3 week paid vacation as all of us do. [/quote]
