It saddens me to think that kids will be hurting, but if we’re no longer operating as a United States, we’ll all just focus on our communities. That brings us closer to our communities, but also drives us apart. People will take care of people in their own states, but they’ll have regional partnerships too.
What does this even mean? The goal to eliminate public education is decades in the making and elite Republicans and Democrats want this. The goal is to have private equity run schools which really means strip them for parts. Charters will mop up some. The publics will be devastated. There is no way for “the community” to save the kids if you starve publics and it’s well underway. This is a tragedy among the other tragedies and I don’t think it can be fixed. The last president who sent their child to a public was Jimmy Carter. The Clinton and Obama families sent their precious girls to Sidwell. The Davosization, the valorizing of “elite” values, it’s everywhere. It’s capitalism taken to its cruel but rational conclusion. If you can’t afford 65k (nyc) for one of the better privates you’re a failure and parochial schools will not be able to save you for the first time in our country’s history.
