I think it's still useful information for making informed decisions about 7th grade course selection, and I'm hopeful that parents and schools still use it as a reference point--it's a very reasonable minimum for the majority of students who want to do 7th grade algebra.

But just like students have always been able to go straight from math 7 to algebra 1 (ask me how many times I've had kids on my 8th grade algebra roster who failed the math 7 SOL...it's a lot), parents will now be able to override the data and register their kid for algebra 1 in 7th grade no matter what. 450 on the math 6 SOL and a 76 on the IAAT? Close enough.

I teach Advanced Math 6th (7th grade math) and I am not happy about this change. I wish teacher recommendation was a part of it. I know which kids are ready. Literally every kid I would recommend did well on IAAT. There is sometimes surprises score wise but I know who is ready and who would benefit 7H math. This push for Algebra for all is so ridiculous.
