It can vary by subject (PE way more than a Latin teacher, but a Latin teacher can have all different preps), but most secondary APS teachers I know have 125-150 students. I know it's really hard to give great, individualized feedback on essays to 150 students.
That’s true, a load of PE that is high is less relevant than saying English essays or math. Is it possible? The average is high because they keep it low for the core subjects but high for things like PE?
I’m an electives teacher, and I can tell you for sure, that no one cares about our class sizes. In addition, we often have kids that are in self-contained classes all day and come to us without any support. P.E. is in the same boat. I have complained to my content area in the central office, and they put it back on school-based administration. The school-based administrators put it back on central office, for not putting a cap on our classes. They both know it’s wrong, but nobody cares enough to advocate for us. If your child is in an elective or P.E, you should ask how many kids are in the class. You’d be surprised.
