The fact that he had a chance in MD says how totally out of touch with reality the other side was. 
And, unfortunately, continues to be.  No clue that the only way to have won was with the middle, which they persistently alienated.

They wanted them to hold their proboscis and vote their way, and while some did, enough held it to vote the other --  something they just couldn't fathom. 
Now, the only way to bring it back from the brink is to just abandon [i]anything[/i] other than the exigency of maintaining a realistic civil check, with the only prospect of that being to create a new majority that offers authorship of the agenda to the few who even would consider such a move.

No lessons learned from 2016.  Or 2000.  Or 1988.  Or 1876.  Or 1828.  Or...[/quote]
