I am jealous of parents who have a lot of soccer resources in their own neighborhoods for sure.  We only have smaller clubs where I live, no local trainers, soccer gyms or high level soccer programs.  We usually spend 30 minutes each way driving to get in extra touches with clinics or trainers.

I can have my kid do some extra ball work in the back yard or inside the house, but its not the same at all as getting feedback and motivation from a coach and going up against other kids.  (Also, my kid is at an age where she does not listen to anything I say relating to soccer...yay!)

Anyway, every family's situation is different.  The few kids I've noticed that had private training became a lot better, but in both those cases the training was super convenient to them.  One kid was home schooled and her mom would bring her to training at 3:30 daily to get a session in before team practice.   The other kid has a trainer in her neighborhood and access to a good field within 5 minutes of her house.

A close program or trainer is worth looking for, good luck!
