Map scores matter only to a certain extent. They have to make sure a kid can handle the work, but there are tons of kids with high scores who don't get in.[/quote]
This is something that gets repeated too many times, but at least in our circle, every kid that deserved to be there (about 20 or so) got selected. In fact I will make an argument in the opposite direction. For some kids at magnet, the work is too much for them. I believe 50 to 75 percent of the current seat capacity would be more appropriate. Because you are so qualified to be the judge of which kids "deserved to be there" and those that don't? You sound really horrible.
I don't know any child who is unqualified to be in the magnet. I just know of a lot of other really brilliant and highly motivated kids who did not get in.[/quote]
