I’m wondering why law enforcement across the country hasn’t launched a mutiny against Trump and his administration for dismissing the deaths of 5 officers killed on JAN 6th.
It is not accurate to say that 5 officers were killed on January 6th. One officer suffered injuries after interacting with protesters and then died by stroke. I feel comfortable saying his death was brought on by the riot but he was not directly killed by them. In addition, four officers committed suicide in the aftermath of J6. This is a very big deal and I wish it would be discussed more and I especially get upset when Trump and others supportive of the riot dismiss this out of hand. Mental health is a big deal for all first responders. Police officers are especially susceptible to mental health crises after being engaged in violent altercations. J6 was chaotic and violent. It was a confusing event and Trump's refusal to send the National Guard to help Capitol officers who were scrambling and did not have control of the situation made it worse. Capitol police take seriously their mission to not only keep the peace on Capitol grounds, but to protect both our elected officials and the Capitol itself as a historical artifact and symbol of democracy. So four officers taking their own lives after this totally unprecedented event that resulted in multiple deaths the day of, a total disruption in an important Congressional proceeding, and considerable damage to the building itself, matters. Anyway, I have a friend who is a former member of the Capitol police force and he is livid about this. He blames Trump more than Republicans in Congress but he does not understand why other Republicans do not stand up to Trump on this issue. He even pardoned the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who are known instigators of violent activity. It is grotesque.
