Do we ever get the HOPE score if we parent referred?
To answer your direct questions, you only get the HOPE score and other materials that are sent to the central committee if you request them after they are sent. This is important to know in the event your child is not accepted and you wish to appeal because the appeal window is short. For example, there is less value to paying for a WISC if it's clear that the HOPE is what caused the student not to be admitted to full time AAP. If it's the work samples that were weak, you can submit new, better ones. But if it's the HOPE score, you may as well wait until year because it's very subjective and the same individuals are unlikely to render a different result. I say this as the parent of an accepted kid with what I now know to have been an excellent HOPE score. At the time, I wasn't confident about that because there were aspects of my kid that weren't reflected (not all ratings were "always," and teacher didn't know about musical and language abilities because they take place outside of school). Bottom line, you are dependent on how well they know your child and how they "view" DC. If you have young children, it's worth requesting the packet regardless.
