You have to ask for the packet, which they typically will not give you until either it's been sent off to the central office or possibly after the central selection committee meets. I never asked for packets for any of my 3 kids, but to read this forum everyone does it. Note they give your kid a HOPE (before recently GBRS) each year. In years when your kid isn't referred to full time AAP it typically is done in spring. It's in your kid's file.
thank you!! Does this mean they do a HOPE (or equivalent) even in kinder and first?
They do but they are not included in the AAP packet, it is information that the school uses to help balance classrooms for the next school year. I asked for my child's packet because I was interested in how the Teachers really saw my kid. The report cards and assessments that we get are so generic you don't get a real feel for how your child is progressing. The AAP packet gave me a much better idea about what the teachers saw in my son and his strengths and weaknesses. He had strogn GBRSs and the area he was weakest in, writing, was no real surprised. I have other friends who asked for their kids packets and boy were they upset with how the teachers saw their kid. There was some impressive complaints about the comments. Their kids were not placed in AAP and we still hear the comments today.
Got it. Thank you! Seems like a lot of power in the hands of the second grade teacher!
