NP Most of my son's teammates (on well known AAU team) are planning to apply at IAC/MAC schools next year and/or attempt to be "recruited." What's the point of attending these schools (for basketball vs academics) to be bench riders? There is a LOT of talent in the DMV and fierce competition to make AAU and school teams. (We can't afford to spend $50k+/year for tuition with no guarantee of playing time at JV or V levels!)
If your son's teammates aren't being pursued by IAC/MAC schools then you should probably adjust their goals downward. Almost every single school uses their diversity card and aggressively pursues players all the way to senior year. Even if your kids are pretty good, they will find themselves behind the scholarship poc. Once a school has decided to admit a scholarship player, that player plays. There are a few examples every year where a scholarship player flushes out due to grades or other issues like the distance to school. I think one of the few players to rise above is a player at Sidwell. Of course, he's 6'5" and about 220 lbs and a real player. All you have to do is look at the standings. The top schools recruit and give scholarships and the bottom ones don't. Btw, if you are a poc and have money and your kid is any good at all, he is admitted. Diverse and $$ opens doors.
