I have a long history of weight loss attempts. I have currently been seeing an internist and have been receiving a compounded semaglutide for the past 16 months. I lost a total of 30 lbs but have since gained back 12, so a current net loss of 18 lbs. I am paying $600/month for the medication and have been at max dosage for the past 10 months. I would like to switch medications and try either Wegovy or Zepbound for both cost reasons as well as to hopefully reduce side effects. I experience nausea and GI issues almost daily. I am very worried about going off of medication completely for fear that the weight will all pile back on. I am about 50 lbs away from goal weight currently. The doctor will not prescribe me any other medication because she says that her "program" only includes the compound. They do not submit to insurance at all for the medication - everything is out of pocket. I saw my PCP two months ago for a physical and although my A1C is lower than last year, I am still borderline pre-diabetic. She also will not prescribe me any weight-loss medication because although she agrees that it may be helpful for me, she said she is not an expert in weight loss medication so she won't prescribe. I have in the past gone to multiple well known weight loss clinics in the Western Fairfax/Eastern Loudoun area and had horrible experiences with the doctors there. From being put on 800 calorie/day diets of medical food replacements to cocktails of medications including phentermine that made me feel awful. I much prefer to eat real food. Where can I go to get a prescription for either Wegovy or Zepbound that might not cost me $600/month? It's getting harder to come up with the money every month. How does it feel like everyone else is getting this medication more easily and cheaper than me???
