I never really understood why he resorted to sugaring.  He could have found a girlfriend or dates that he didn't spend a ton of money on.   In my shallow early 20s I think I just thought he wanted to be seen with women he probably wouldn't normally be able to date.  Now at 40,  I've wondered if he was married in a different state and the sugaring made it so no feelings got involved and no questions got asked.

I met DH about a year after the whole thing ended.  DH knows about it.  DH is kind of a nerd and is always interested in how things work and businesses operate.  He was more interested in that aspect of things vs caring that I actually did it.  He saw it as no different than any other consensual relationship.  [/quote]
