Good grief! If this is true, what is a person supposed to eat! I found dairy was triggering me a bit so I switched to soy milk. I can't eliminate everything and posting this with no suggestions is borderline cruel!

The other poster who said low carb and low fat means I am supposed to focus on only protein, I guess. That seems...impossible! I can't eat plain eggs, chicken and fish for every meal in quantities enough to gain weight
What I am doing now is helping (avoiding high-acid and fat-dense foods). I'll see what the nutritionist says on Tuesday. I can take a break from the metformin, but for sure I had some reflux symptoms before I started taking it. The reflux developed when I made the initial dietary changes to low-carb.[/quote]

I really think you need to reassess whether the a1c is accurate and whether you need to be so aggressive in treating the “prediabetes.” Apparently a1c can be inaccurate in some cases - did the doctor do any follow up on that? In any event your slightly elevated blood sugar isn’t an emergency; but your significant weight loss and misery actually are. The rational thing to do here is to stop dieting and taking the Metformin, get back to a healthy weight, and consult with an actual endocrinologist (or a different one) if you have not already.
