Thanks for your thoughtful and kind reply. I am not diabetic, however, I have two first degree relatives who are (both obese). I wanted to delay diabetes onset and try metformin because it's supposed to be safe and effective. I could go off it if I thought it would help, but the reflux is the bigger problem. The reflux is bad--the persistent sour taste 24/7 affects every waking moment of my life. It also worries me that it's damaging my teeth (they became very stained) and gums as well as my esophagus. The restrictive diet is the ONLY thing that has provided any relief at all, and it's only moderate relief. I tried nuts but they trigger my reflux. I tried almonds, peanuts, walnuts, and pecans. I love peanut butter. I am made mostly of organic peanut butter, in fact. But I can't eat it right now. I guess the only solution is to eat the same things, but more frequently. I can't do larger quantities because that's a trigger too. I am so over this...
Well I think you know the answer. You don’t actually have diabetes so you should stop taking the Metformin. It is causing you serious health issues (that weight loss is no joke at your age). If you develop diabetes you can reassess.
