When I was diagnosed with prediabetes at age 50 in July 2024, I took big steps to eat 100% clean (no added sugar, additional protein and fewer carbs, intermittent fasting, good, healthy food like salmon and chicken and eggs and tons of vegetables with only whole grains, etc.) I also increased my exercise to move after each meal. I have never been overweight and was 5'2" and 120 lbs in July; I have always exercised regularly (5-6x a week with running, swimming, biking, strength training). I lost about 9 pounds by late October when my retest HbA1c came in higher than the July reading. So that was a bummer. My doc added metformin at the lowest dose. I had been having a persistent sour taste in my mouth that I thought was the metformin, but eventually realized was reflux, probably because of the additional fat content I was eating. My doctor put me on famotidine 20 mg morning and 20 mg evening and that is helping (it's been about 10 days). The problem is I am now clinically underweight (100 lbs). I do not have an eating disorder and am not trying to lose weight nor happy about the weight loss. The problem is that I can't have high-fat food, nor acidic foods (no tomatoes, citrus, pepper, garlic, onion, vinegar, bell peppers, chocolate, seltzer, alcohol, or nuts). I can't eat past 5 PM. This is helping and my symptoms are better which is wonderful! The problem is I cannot get enough calories. I have a nutritionist appointment on Tuesday to help, but am soliciting DCUM for ideas. I don't think I have Type 1 diabetes because I have no persistent thirst and the weight loss is not unexplained. I am definitely eating LESS than I used to and still exercising MORE. What foods, small meals, snacks can you recommend? I am really struggling. Here was yesterday: 2 eggs, plain ground turkey with herbs, 1/2 avocado, steel cut oatmeal lentil/turkey stew with Brussels sprouts roasted in olive oil, soy milk, shredded wheat popcorn, soy milk, whole wheat digestive biscuit poached salmon salad with greens, cucumber, carrot, feta cheese and a few crushed tortilla chips one bite of a brownie
