Hi, I don’t think my kid is a good candidate for full-time AAP, but I would like him in advanced math starting in 3rd grade. He’s doing division at home in 2nd grade and addition or whatever in school. I’d like it to match up a little more, and I also want him to have more advanced math now so he can be on a more competitive math track later. For some reason, he had a disappointing IReady score this fall (like 68 percentile or something). I think he can do better - are there any tests for math FCPS will recognize? Can I submit like worksheets of him doing multiplication tables? I am not really sure what to submit to help his case.
Try to find out more about what happened with the fall iready score. I was able to get an extensive report last year when dc was in gr 1 (this year the teacher was a bit more selective in what they shared but I think I could have learned more if I persisted). You may learn more about why your dc is underperforming* and you can find ways to address it in time for the next iready. *Note, some children rush through the questions to get to the games! I also noticed my dc sometimes makes careless mistakes when completing tests and needed extra guidance on checking answers, etc.
