All of this travel baseball talk, does anyone have experience with the Stars organization? I know it's huge and probably dependent on what team you are on, but am curious to hear others experiences.
Travel ball has changed over the last 10 years. When we started travel didn't really start until 13U after little league was over but it didn't really start in earnest until maybe 16U. Now you have 8u travel teams. AFAICT, the point behind the 8U-10U travel teams seems to be to avoid the rec kids. The 11u and 12u teams seem to be much of the same except I think there is actually some baseball going on. The 13u and 14u kids are frequently trying to make their high school team and if your high school coach is affiliated with the Stars somehow, they can get more looks by being on the team. The 15u teams are still trying to make the team and once they do the "neighborhood" teams seem to split into teams that made the high school teams and ones that didn't. I think some of the 16u and older teams are starting to get pretty legit. The majority of the stars teams are good payers but not prospects. By the time they get to 17u when most of the recruiting seems to happen, you can look at the tournaments the team goes to and figure out if you are a neighborhood team, a pay to play team or a showcase team. The stars are so big they have a bit of everything but most of the kids just want to play and do not have college baseball (or even high school baseball) in their future. This is true of travel organizations across the region.
