It's common at state flagships. I was 2 years younger than a sibling at a large state flagship. We were very different people and ran in different circles...most of the time we didn't even travel home together on breaks (there were frequent direct buses). it was great to have someone that knew the ropes regarding registering for classes, the best dorms as a freshmen, the greek situation, etc.
+1 My siblings and I all went to the same flagship. We would run into each other ocassionally, but that was really about it. If my parents were in visiting then we'd all meet up for a tailgate or dinner or whatever. A few years only one of us had a car and we'd drive home together for breaks, but once everyone had a car then we'd driving home individually because obviously we'd want our respective cars while home. It was nice just knowing they were around in case of an emergency, especially the years I didn't have a car.
