My son attends the Elliott School of International Affairs as an undergrad. He turned down UMD et al because he wanted that particular school. I think he also appreciates the urban campus. Dorm is comfortable, food is decent. Luckily he received 20K/year merit aid because it's not cheap!
Even with $20k merit isn't it close to $70k/year which means it is more than twice the cost of UMD. Prob better to bank the difference for grad school or a first home.
PP you replied to. We pay $65K a year. Full price is $85K. We can afford that, and grad school, for two kids. What you can afford depends on your budget, of course. UMD does not have anywhere near the coursework to cobble together a similar degree - not all colleges offer all the majors. But if my second kid wants a STEM major, then UMD will do fine!
