The cause is vast growth n in County budget based on the idea that retail and office tax revenues would rise forever. Instead, there are empty towers and lower assessments. Cut "human services" and save a million or two by not shooting the deer.
Arlington prefers trap, sterilize, and release. Although, they started studying the problem in 2021 to see if there a better alternative. In a few more years, you might have a count of the deer population from a few years ago. Fingers crossed! https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/62c66ebaa3c84c5e91bab3a8cf1f1c70 https://www.arlingtonva.us/Government/Projects/Project-Types/Parks-Projects/Deer-Management-Program
I oppose this. We have deer in our neighborhood park. they are used to humans and wont flee. It disgusting that someone would shoot them knowing that. Then once they do, the deer will stop trusting people and yes they can charge and injure people. I also oppose this because of the number of people who use the park even if there are signs and ropes posted , It will only take one close call or worse before the program is ended. Arlington is too dense of an area for this kind of activity.
