This year is a "great" Winter break year for these parts and the hard 180 day rule which requires awful makeup days if weather cancellations would result in fewer days are the reason school is open January 2&3. The last 2 years January 2 was off but that was to provide 7 weekdays off, but with 8 days off combined with the hard 180 rule it was too difficult to make the break a full two weeks. Then again you think this is crazy wait till next year! With December 23 on a Tuesday, Christmas Eve Wednesday and Christmas on Thursday for the 1st time in a decade it's practically a forced two weeks but even that is a challenge with the hard 180. Even though it's only 2 extra days it potentially involves the school year being OVER a WEEK LONGER! 
2024-25 August 26-June 13
2025-26 August 25-June 22
That is SIX weekdays and 10 total days longer even though it should only be TWO weekdays longer although it would be four total days longer![/quote]

The haven't finalized next year's calendar yet, and they were leaning towards the shorter winter break/earlier end date at the most recent meeting.[/quote]
