Last year, my child didn’t get into AAP, and I’d like to reapply this year. He is currently in 3rd grade. Besides the iReady and HOPE scores, what other test scores are used to determine eligibility? Does my child need to take the CogAT in 3rd grade? Thank you!
They'll include new iReady and new HOPE scores, your child's 2nd grade report card, and new work samples. You do not need to retake the CogAT. If you don't, they'll just use the score from 2nd grade. When you're applying in 3rd or higher, the goal of your submissions should not be to prove that your kid is smart and would do well in AAP, but rather that your child's needs aren't being met in your child's gen ed classroom. By this point in the year, you should have some anecdotes about how your child is not receiving the extensions that they need, is not socially thriving, or whatever. If the kid is in the above grade level reading group, mention how infrequently your child even sees the teacher. If your school doesn't offer gen ed advanced math, but your kid is a math whiz, mention how your child needs access to advanced math and can only receive it in AAP. If your child is principal placed in a LLIV classroom, focus on how your child is thriving with the material and needs to continue with the AAP placement to have their needs met.
