Why, oh why, does no one remember the context of the supposed "pre-Obama" prices? THE ECONOMY HAD CRASHED! The prices were only low for a couple weeks until we figured out the world was NOT ending. It has been a steady climb ever since. The prices just months before were well into the $4+/gallon. Stop spreading this insane bullshit. Fox itself said that a president has very little effect on gas prices - check the tape. Prices now have very little to do with our country or our production - it is mostly tied to demand elsewhere. And you realize we still pay much less than the rest of the world, right?
I only said our nation would be much more prosperous if we would be at pre-Obama prices. How can you argue with that? [vimeo]Gas affects everything, from the price of plastic and other petroleum products, to the price of groceries. For people who must drive to get to work, paying 50% less in gas is the difference between feeding their families or not. In many places, like St. Louis, folks must drive to where the work is. They can't afford to sell and move, and they can't afford not to work. So they drive. A lot. My sister's car was on fumes, because she is one of these people who have to make these kinds of choices. She was crying after filling her car this morning.
Because your implication was that if it weren't for Obama or if we could go back to the good ole' pre-Obama days gas would be $1.80 but you are not accurately reflecting the averages prior to Obama! The prices were $3-4 a gallon. Why didn't you choose pre-Bush prices or Clinton? Of course, if gas was cheaper things would be easier but prices are basically what they were under Bush's second term and your implication was otherwise. Imagine how prosperous our nation would be if healthcare cost what it did before Bush took office...etc etc. This can go on and on. The question is what do we do about it. Presidents really cannot affect gas prices on a day to day basis (Bush couldn't and Obama can't unless the government takes over the oil and gas industry). But policies they support can help us be less dependent on gas (more fuel efficient cars for example). I'm glad your sister got a good deal though, and am sorry that she's struggling. But she'd likely be paying $3.50ish regardless of who got elected in 2008--unless we hadn't avoided another great depression, in which case, gas might be a steal.
Not my implication. The gas station selling the gas is charging a pre-Obama price. Not a pre-Bush or pre-Clinton price, but a pre-Obama price. I am sure she would be crying if she were getting pre/1st term Bush prices as well. You are too sensitive.
