Do NOT, and I mean do NOT contact your child’s professor to find out info about their performance in a class. Your child is definitely not telling you the whole story if they are doing poorly in a class. Even if they are, however, there is a federal FERPA law that prevents any prof from discussing your child’s grade and performance in a class with a parent.

I’ve had parents tell me on several occasions, either in emails or on the phone, that they pay 100% of their child’s college costs so they are entitled to get information on their child from me. NOPE that isn’t how it works and while it’s great you’re paying for your child’s education, you don’t own them and you certainly don’t own me.

So parents nix this entitlement and attitude before your child goes to college. You aren’t doing your child or anyone any favors. Rant over for this academic year. [/quote]
