As pointed out, there are many MD commuters to DC who live in the burbs and work in the city. Also, since DC is a Congressionally controlled city, they have a vested interest in making sure that MD and VA Senators, the ones most likely to fight for DC rights due to constituents that work in the city, are Democratic since the city has a strong Democratic tilt.[/quote]
