This is our experience an my dd loves it.  The team is big, even after cutting maybe ten players.  I think they have like 35 players.  And on our team, at least, I'm pretty sure almost half of the team hasn't played a minute of game time.  Some (but not a lot) of the starters play both offense and defense.  I've also heard of three concussions on our team (and I'm not sure I've heard about them all) so although it is sort of a non contact sport, there's still plenty of room for hitting heads by accident.  (That may be no different than soccer, lacrosse, etc. but maybe something to keep an eye on.)

I do think they are on a bit of a learning curve this season--most of the girls on our team had literally never held a football before a summer clinic.  In my limited experience, a lot of the yardage is done on kind of trick plays (or errors) and the refs are learning along with the teams.  And there are some funny rules (at least funny to me).  Dd said that in one instance a player pointed to an opposing player and told her teammate, "That girl shoved me!"  The girl who was accursed of shoving said, "I did not!"  The player who had been accused was then charged with a violation because the rule seems to be that you can say whatever you'd like to your teammates, but can't address the opposing player.  Not complaining-- I like the idea of trying to keep things civil.  But it seems like maybe next season they can add some nuance (or else I guess the kids will just learn how to use the right grammar!)
