Regardless - he needs to get to know some profs and contribute in class for a good rec. It's fine to use 1 from high school, but college will obviously read better. He needs to join clubs and show why he wants to trasnfer to BC or GU or wherever, that Villanova doesn't have.

It's only 3 weeks in. The 3 schools really aren't very different at all, so I'm curious as to why he wants to transfer so soon.

My oldest transferred after 1.5 years - it's absolutely a mixed bag, so don't take it lightly. It was the right move for her, but she changed major, type and size of school substantially. It wasn't fun, as there were a lot of emotions and anxiety wrapped up in to the decision (all while studying her butt off to get the best grades possible and trying to make her original school work).
