I didn't want to hijack someone else's topic. We moved here over the summer. Who knows about the rising 8th grade division 1 boys teams in the mid-south-Fairfax area? It looks like our options are BRYC, Burke or SYC to be in-zip (22152) I have been studying the website! BRYC won the league last year, does that mean its a good team to go for with a good coach, or will there be no spots? The Burke team did not do very well, does that mean they will be moved down to the lower level out of the first division for this season? Also, does SYC even have teams? I don't see any for this age last year or most of the other ages but they have open practices listed on their website. Is there a reason people don't want to play there? (Bad coach or bad org?)
I would just focus on having your kid try out for every team your zip code falls in. Your son may get more than 1 offer, or he may not get any. If he gets offers, I'd go by how the tryouts look to you (the way the coaches teach and how they run the tryouts, the level of other players, etc.). You can also try talking to other parents in attendance to get their opinions. The main key is just to get an offer. In my kid's age group, BRYC was terrible. So I don't think it's based on "organization," but rather (1) the players on the particular team and (2) the coach.
