It was a great day, followed by a shitty evening. I gave up wine in order to lose a few pounds. I will have to get back on that wagon tomorrow. I went to leave work (in Rockville) and my car wouldn't start. I think there is an electrical issue. I called DH and it went straight to VM. Great, I assumed because that meant he was already on the Metro. I left him a detail voice message and sent three texts asking him to 1) pick up the kids and then 2) pick me up because I was walking home. I gave him the route I would take (approximately 6 miles). 20 minutes later I hadn't heard from my husband, so I called his office line. He was still at work. SHIT. I give him the story and tell him I'll walk another 1/2 mile, to the nearest gas station and call a cab, so I'm not too late getting the kids. I call the afterschool center and tell them I will be late. They were very understanding. 2.5 miles later, I wait for a cab. I take the cab home to realize that my *dear* husband has the keys to his car. I grab my bike and ride 1 mile to pick up the kids. Then the kids and I walk the mile back to the house. With me walking my bike, carrying one back pack and my daughter is bare foot because she wore impractical shoes. Sigh. Lessons for learned: 1) call a cab imediately instead of assuming things will work out, 2) have the number of a cab (especially in the suburbs), 3) have a Metro/bus card, 4) don't assume that a six mile walk is great in work clothes on a humid day (me: Yay, I'll get my workout in early = fail) And for DH: 1) call if you are working late, 2) leave your DAMN car keys at home and 3) when I call to tell you all of this- DO NOT ASK if the car was in park, if the engine was turning over, if it has gas, etc. 4) do not offer a ride 2 blocks from the house. Here is to a better day tomorrow. Oh shit, scratch that my car is still at work.
