I’m happy if anyone even loves their spouse… grateful, yes, but even love seems out of reach sometimes. I’m divorced after over a decade of being together, most of it just barely tolerable and mostly for the kids. My question is if people still feel “in love” with their spouse after many years. I’m dating again and have with a new partner for 18 months. I do feel “in love” though I don’t think it’s limerance (still not really sure what that means). The sex keeps getting better, so far our disagreements have led to better understanding and brought us closer, and we’ve weathered a difficulty with my ex and work/life balance.
It's harder to still feel "in love" after many years with a new partner after going through a divorce. You may be much more compatible and mature, and your new partner may be a much better person than your first husband, but the challenges are so much more significant, and they tear you apart. Most of them boil down to divided loyalties and conflicting priorities. Wishing you the best, and at minimum, enjoy it while it lasts.
