Renovated dorms with central air was one of the items on our college search check-list, as was decent dining hall food. For the money families have to pay, this should be included.
DC1 is in a decent college with a good quality of life. I hope DC2 will find something similar.

DC1 is at George Washington. His dorm has central air and the food is good. 
He was accepted into UMD's Honors program, which would have got him into the renovated Dorchester dorm, also with central air. Food isn't as good. 
We also went to William & Mary's accepted student day, and visited a meh dorm room with window unit, and the food was terrible (but apparently they revamped their food offerings). St John's College in Annapolis wasn't very comfortable either. DC did not apply to Middlebury and Skidmore, but visited, and they both looked nice, Middlebury being quite lovely, airy and modern. Vassar is terribly run-down.[/quote]
