I wish the charters wouldn't make 5th an entry year (Cap City, Basis and Latin). There are a bunch of decent DCPS schools that go through 5th, and a good number of parents who would like their kids to stay in elementary through 5th. But maybe it actually makes schools that start in 6th easier to get into because other kids will be set at Latin or whereever by then.
This might be a chance for an OOBer to get in fifth grade via lottery and then feed to a more desirable middle school, though
I just don't want to move my kid for one year. I might consider it for Watkins, not because its great but it's close so my kid would know people.
It's not that big a deal to move a child for a year, especially if it eliminates future lottery stress AND introduces DC to the group they'll be with for middle and high school. I find it much harder to get acquainted with DC's friends' parents now, compared to elementary...it's easier to scope out possible overlax parents or unwelcome influences... if i faced a poor middle or high school IB I'd certainly try OOB for a year
