We did it, it was fine. But you need online reservations for almost everything. The only thing we didn't reserve online was the Eiffel tower because we took the steps to the viewing platform and you just get walk-up tickets for that. But some things the online reservations sell out very quickly for popular things (for example, the best morning museum times, Catacombs, Eiffel tower elevator ticket, so you need to research in advance when tickets are released). I don't think it gets crazy crowded until July.
Just coming back to add - the only thing that was oppressively crowded were the main Louvre galleries by the Mona Lisa. And you can get Eiffel tower walk up tickets on line but literally every single 15 increment time slot was available so it was nice to not have to time arrival for that. You can get the Paris Museum pass if you do a lot of museums but we only did the Louvre and the Musee D'Orsey so it wasn't worth it for us. Tip for the Louve: There was a 30 minute time slot for entry and we got there right before the end of the window. Everyone was standing by the glass triangle in long lines in the blazing son for the next entry. But when they saw our ticket time, they directed us to a different entrance where we waited 5 minutes in a shorter line under an archway so not in the heat.
