Rising second grade, but young for her age. Swims in summer MC pool club during summer, but took lessons in Greenbelt for several years. Tried out for DC Wave, and did not make it (no fly) - and they recommended junior wave. Really enjoys summer swim team and wants to do something during the year. Option 1), do junior wave if accepted to Takoma - 3X a week; 2) Machine at College Park - 2X week, pricey, late evening practices; 3) try out for Greenbelt team or similar close-in suburban team - 2X week early evening practices, one early morning Sunday practice that would be challenging to make; 4) wait until third grade... Thoughts?
The one word of advice I would offer here is don't wait. Your DC will not become a better swimmer by next year if they do not do winter swim...but the other kids DC's age who *do* swim over the winter will improve, sometimes dramatically. That in turn will make it harder for DC to get into competitive team programs and A meets. Plus the older DC gets the higher the tryout standards become.
