We are renting a house with a pool and I would love to take this opportunity to get my sorta-kinda swimming kids really swimming. Ideally I would hire a high schooler or college student to come and do swimming lessons with them several times a week (or even daily). Where would I find such a person? How much should I expect to spend? In N. Arlington.
Call or walk into the nearest local pools and get the contact info of the summer swim coaches and assistant/junior coaches who teach lessons. Be prepared to pay at least $25-30 per half hour plus a premium for the travel (so maybe $40 per half-hour, depending on the distance?), plus also a bit more for a more experienced coach or for more than one kid at a time. Summer swim coaches are used to teaching lessons and will likely be easily transparent with you about their pricing. But also bear in mind that your backyard pool may not be large enough or deep enough for certain skills and strokes to be taught. It depends upon what DCs need: you might want to have an initial meeting at your house up front so the potential coach can see your space.
