I really love microgreens (pea shoots, sunflower sprouts, and other mixed microgreens), but I'd like to eat more regular lettuce. I don't like anything with too strong of a flavor or thick. For example, I don't like the giant vein that runs through romaine - too crunchy and I don't love the flavor. I also always chop it into fairly small pieces, smaller than bite size, so it needs to be able to handle that. I'm thinking butter lettuce, although that is a bit of a hassle since it has limited fridge life. I don't mind some arugula, although the flavor can be a bit off for some salads I like. I have access to lots of both ethnic and upscale grocery stores. I'm OK spending $$, bug I don't like to waste food. Are there any other greens I should try?
You can buy butter lettuce with the roots/dirt attached and it lasts awhile. I always cut the rib out of romaine, kale, chard etc. It doesn’t taste good and has a terrible mouthfeel. I feel like the rib is meant to be taken out but it’s a bit time consuming. Anyway try taking the rib out of romaine and see if you like it better. Also green leaf lettuce is tasty on a sandwich and doesn’t have much of the rib.
