When I was in middle school in Massachusetts (in the mid-late 80s) we got detention for things that aren't even noticed now! Didn't do homework? Detention! A minute late for class? Detention! And you served detention that same afternoon immediately after school--they didn't care if you had a piano lesson or sports practice or whatever. [/quote]
