We are considering a move that would put us in this school district. I'm sure the school is overall good but I'm wondering if they have the same challenges as the rest of the county with the move to curriculum 2.0. Do kids under 2.0 get differentiation? Any pros/cons to the neighborhood that people would be willing to share? Is the school still under construction, and if so, when does it reopen on Post Oak? Thanks!
Other schools in the Potomac area might be doing a better job with differentiation under 2.0. My child is in 3rd grade at Beverly Farms and the implementation of 2.0 (which began last year in 2nd grade) has been a disaster. My child keeps doing the same thing over and over and over in Math even though he passed these concepts in Kindergarten. In reading, they also don't challenge him and he is bored. There are no statistics to show how effective the curriculum is because the 3rd grade kids are the guinea pigs for the county. At Beverly Farms, kids in 2.0 remain in the same classroom with the same teacher and same student population for the entire day. The teacher is responsible for doing the differentiation in the classroom but the reality is the teacher stops teaching kids once they are on grade level because that is all the new standard expects and the administration is not supporting the teacher with extensions. There are no textbooks or materials that come home to let parents know what their children are doing during the day. Our kids are supposedly assessed but the results are not communicated home to parents by the staff. You may want to consider looking at Wayside, Potomac, Cold Spring, Bells Mills, or Seven Locks Elementary school districts. Beverly Farms is a terrible school to go to.
