Our neighborhood Facebook page is alive and well with teens home for the summer advertising their babysitting services. According to fliers, most 16 year olds are charging $30/ hr base for one kid then a surcharge for additional kids or “hot” hours. Several have a surge pricing method. Part of me is like, you go girl. Hustle. But also, it seems super steep. I pay our 19 year old sitter $20/ hr for two kids. Should I up her rate? She’s never asked for more.
I mean as far as capitalism goes they can charge whatever they want but you're 16 years old there's no way you have the breadth of experience or certifications to actually charge $30 an hour. Especially for a Singleton or kids that are over the age of six. But I would be surprised if anybody's grabbing those tickets.
