Not your question but worth noting, UMiami definitely seems to focus on managing yield at our HS school. Definitely pay attention to the scattergrams. The students at our school with stats in the highest quadrant (so above Miami's average) were all deferred in EA. I think they would have needed to ED to get in. The deferred students then get nagged by Miami to switch to ED. At a minimum, they would have to write a very strong (I want to go to Miami and will accept) LOCI to get in. Students accepted EA are in the middle stats range for Miami toward the top, but not over it. Either way, students have to show a ton of demonstrated interest for that school so if your stats are high and you are coming from an area where it would seem you can afford to ED, you need to ED.
We are definitely concerned about yield protection. According to Naviance, there are a good number of EA acceptances in my DC's range. There look to be very, very few ED green check circles. The EA waitlist seems to hit a wall at 1430 SAT and DC is above that. I know there are no guarantees, though. DC has toured and will continue to show interest. Can you tell by looking at Naviance if an EA deferral was switched to ED? Would that be Waitlist/Accept in green? I'm not seeing any of those.
