ACA costs varies by state. VA is the most expensive in this area. We had an HMO high deductible plan, family of four for about $1400 in MD.
I know it does but just wanted to see what people do and if there is something I am not thinking about in terms of plans/companies. That seems to be the cheapest where I am as well for four.
There are plans that are not ACA approved that might be cheaper, but those are like the plan pre ACA where they have lifetime caps and can kick you off the plan if you use the insurance too much. You can gamble with those types of plans, but my spouse refused to do that. We have seen people lose their life savings due to medical issues because they were under insured (this was pre ACA). Most are faith based plans that limit certain things like birth control, and they can exclude pre existing conditions. https://www.forbes.com/sites/johngoodman/2019/01/30/alternatives-to-obamacare/?sh=53075e5361ff
