What school?  Why do you say this?   It’s not the policy at least in elementary where you aren’t notified of failure until early August.  I can’t speak to MS.   But I’d be shocked if APS was nuanced enough to have a different policy for MS than for ES.

No, they did not.  I understand they could, but I do not like the emphasis on SOLs by their teachers anyway. I don’t want to send them marching to school with directions to find out this information because it communicates to them that it’s more important than it is.

But, I do not understand why APS is not transparent with family — students and parents — immediately about testing results, even if it’s to say these are preliminary subject to scaling or whatever.   It’s incredibly frustrating for families who need to this information and would use it to know there is a potential red flag or to adjust their summer tutoring or to just generally be aware immediately.  Why should students have to demand it?  And in ES, that is ridiculous.
