I never ask for time off and normally you are supposed to give two weeks notice, but this is literally the FIRST time in almost 2 years I ask for anything aside from one week of paid vacation. I asked for ONE day off and thought it would be fine with 9 days notice. Today my request was rejected. I am so upset and not really sure what to do at this point. I managed to find a college tour spot for my ds and it's 5 hours away so this is why I am going.
How was it rejected? An automatic system rejection type or your boss actually telling you no? Either way, the first answer is to have a conversation with your boss to explain why you need the time (if you haven't) and to find out if there is a business problem with you not working that day that you can try to solve.
It was rejected by HR, not automatic, and said my managers declined it was well. I am very upset as I never ask for time off and the response was so dry and definitive. They also had me do extra work not within the scope of my responsibilities for the past two weeks, with zero notice. I was expected to be flexible and now they are rigid with me. Talking to my managers will not help as they are the second stop and HR is the first. Now my choice is not do the college tour or take a « sick day » which will be so transparent and is ridiculous.
