This afternoon, two students reported finding a live ammunition round (bullet) on the floor of the Boys' Physical Education (PE) locker room to a staff member who immediately notified our Security Team. We called the non-emergency police line, secured the locker room, and conducted a thorough sweep of the PE locker room, including all lockers and trash cans. After dismissal, the Security Team again checked the PE locker room including the bathroom stalls, shower stalls, floor area, and trash cans. We also contacted the parents of the students who initially reported the incident and notified the Office of School Support and Well-Being (OSSWB) about this serious occurrence. We are currently reviewing the camera footage for any additional information.
At this time, we have no evidence indicating a direct threat to the campus or any individual. There is no information suggesting a student threatened harm to anyone in the building today.
Incidents like this underscore the importance of maintaining a safe school environment. I urge you to reinforce with your child the seriousness of bringing anything to school that could be considered a weapon. As stated in the MCPS Student Code of Conduct (https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/students/rights/), weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited on school grounds, and students face severe disciplinary consequences and potential legal violations for such actions.
I want to commend the two students who reported this incident and our staff for their prompt and professional response in following established safety protocols. Their actions enabled us to address this matter swiftly and efficiently.
