I know this sounds trivial to some, but we aren't rich and their visits seriously wipe out an entire grocery run. Is there a tactful way to say "Hey, can you help replace the stuff your children devour?" or do you think we are just stuck ?[/quote]

Tell them it is a potluck and ask them to bring something.  Leave out cheap food and snacks (chips and salsa, grapes, a bowl of cheap candy) and tell everyone the pantry is closed.  [/quote]
