Oh, sorry, I've written my answer without the login... So, I prefer to copy and paste it with my nick. :) @Zynoba: Yes, he read books during that time. However, not nearly as much as he does now. Now he orders four or five a month. Does your mum give private lessons for pupils and students, or for creative writing enthusiasts?
Ok, that's a lot :) When reading, you should concentrate more on the writing, then you would also learn a lot from it. If you lose your thoughts in the story, then of course you can't take as much from the writing style. Perhaps he could read a book twice. The second time he concentrates on the style or whatever he wants to learn from it. My mother tends to give tutoring sessions for schoolchildren. But there have also been older people with her. Mostly because German wasn't their first language. But of course she could also go in other directions and concentrate more on the writing itself. But she doesn't have much time left over. She already has enough work with her school classes. So this is the exception rather than the rule, and usually only for people/children she knows. I wouldn't put too much pressure on myself. It should also be fun. Just sit down and try out what you can do and whether you still enjoy it. It seems like he really enjoys reading too. Otherwise he wouldn't read so many books in such a short time.
