I don't think there is a whole lot of movement on the wait list, but there are occasional spots that open up. There are some drop-in options, but I don't know the general availability. I think there may be the option to utilize the YMCA program for before/aftercare (maybe even with a bus stop for that?), but I'd check directly with them, both about availabiliy and transportation.
Drop-in is only an option if your child is enrolled in KidsCo. For example, if you are signed up for 3 afternoons, your kid could drop in another day that's not their regular day, for a fee. They can also drop-in on the MCPS days off. However, many returning families sign up for more days than they need and adjust before school starts, so will be some waitlist movement. No personal experience, but we know lots of people from SCES who were pleased with the YMCA aftercare. Bus service is provided from SCES to the Y. If you are in the FI program, as someone pointed out, you could check out aftercare options at your home elementary school. So for example, if your home elementary school is a stop on the immersion bus schedule, that could be a possibility. You should be able to utiliize the program at your home school, assuming space is available. You would also need to confirm that the other school's aftercare program has staff that will meet the bus. For example, some kids local to SCES attend immersion programs at other schools, and get bused back to SCES, where a KidsCo staffer meets the bus to escort the kids to aftercare. You don't want your kid wandering around randomly because at that point everyone has gone home and aftercare is already in session.
